Freebird is a solid and reliable example of a successful Kiwi-built ocean sailing yacht.
A solid fibreglass hull and cutter rig means she is well-balanced and has a safe and solid feel when at sea. Her encapsulated keel and skeg rudder give her the characteristics of an ocean sailing boat and seakeeping ability in rough conditions that will deliver you safely to your destination.
She is the perfect boat for someone looking to sail offshore through the Pacific, which Freebird has done many times in her lifetime, or a liveaboard coastal cruiser. Features include a heater and hot water system, making it perfect for the upcoming autumn and winter months, and of course, an outdoor shower for those warmer summer days.
A tidy and well-kept interior highlights features, such as a beautifully varnished Rewarewa table and cream upholstery, that also hide ample storage spaces. A mixture of attractive timber details throughout is complimented by the well-sized portholes, creating a beautiful space to dwell in.
Maintenance has always been well-managed by capable owners. In 2024, the rigging was replaced, and in 2022, a new engine was installed. The vessel recently underwent an extensive refit in Opua, Bay of Islands, which included interior and cockpit painting. It is scheduled to come out of the water in November for a fresh coat of antifoul--making it the ideal time to view and arrange a survey.
She is set up with:
solar panels
wind generator
radar
new instruments
new plotter
diesel heater
Ais
SSB and VHF radios
Drop down table
TMC Saltwater electric toilet
Fleming wind steering
New headsail and staysail furlers
