Originally built in 1937 as a fishing boat by B. J. L 'Joe Jukes' in Balaena Bay in Wellington, Wild Duck has gone on to operate as a Trawler in the South Sea off the Chatham Islands, a seaplane refuelling vessel in Wellington and a regatta committee boat in the Hauraki Gulf before finally becoming an icon of the Bay of Islands, nestled on a mooring in front of the Duke Hotel.
Her journey has been filled with adventure and kiwi heritage. In 2008 she was purchased by the Tino Rawa Trust in 2008 and underwent a substantial refurbishment. In recent years she has been cared for by our Local Trades in the Bay of Islands and is well known as a real lady of the bay.
Driven by a Detroit 371 85hp engine and an Allison 3.1 gearbox the Wild Duck is a trawler embracing the journey. Her simple and robust engineering is a testament to Kiwi Boat Building and provides an exceptional boating experience. Well and truly proving herself as a lady of the sea, Wild Duck is an iconic feature of Russell, and it is with great reluctance that we offer her to the market.
Possibly the best mooring in Russell and Berth Option Available.
